The Canadian Pony Club is a national organization, and part of an international movement, that focuses primarily on developing riding skills and horsemanship (stable management) in the English disciplines.
Our meetings/lessons begin in October after Thanksgiving and end the last Sunday in May. Pony Club members who do not have their own horse or pony are encouraged to seek a part-board or lease arrangement with a privately owned horse, and there are usually some horses available for such an arrangement — talk to the Pony Club leadership for more information. Having access to a horse outside the usual “lesson” time is a large part of the equestrian experience — just like learning to play the piano, you have to practice!
Pony Club members are strongly encouraged to take riding lessons and clinics outside the Pony Club time, and use Pony Club as an additional way to build on their horsemanship and equitation. All riders have access to open ride time every day of the week.
Lessons are focused on flat riding before Christmas and jumping after Christmas. We take our lessons outside when the spring weather is nice. Hands-on stable management continues throughout our pony club year. Our club aims to offer a couple jump clinics throughout the year and a spring schooling show. Spring meetings focus to prepare our riders to the specifics of testing.
Our coaches and instructors are experienced riders themselves who bring a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to every meeting!
